Employees of Youth Employment Agency (YEA) working under Zoomlion in the Kadjebi District, in the Oti Region, have threatened to lay down their tools if their outstanding allowances for the past 18 months are not paid are not paid in two weeks.

The workers claim that the nonpayment is severely impacting their economic well-being, leaving many of them bedridden.

They have threatened to put down their working tools if demands are not met within the given timeframe.

Speaking with Citi News, Johnson Asiamah, a team leader said, “We work for Zoomilion across the country employed by Youth Employment Agency, and our allowances of about 18 months have not been paid.

“We have been working for the company for about 10, 15 to 18 years now. Some of our colleagues died because they couldn’t pay for their medical treatment, and some have been evicted from their homes for failure to pay rent. Others are on their sick beds.

“We’re pleading with management to consider our allowances so that we can take care of ourselves, and our children. In all this, we are pleading with the YEA to facilitate our payments, we’re giving our employers a two-ultimatum to pay our allowances or we will lay down our tools.”
