Former Deputy Transport Minister and Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli, has described the government’s 2026 Budget Statement as “uninspiring” and “empty.”
Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, November 20, during the same panel discussion that featured Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Mr Tampuli argued that the budget lacked substance and failed to address Ghana’s most urgent economic needs.
He stated that many Ghanaians had anticipated a bold fiscal document that would present realistic solutions to economic stagnation, unemployment, and challenges facing key sectors.
Instead, he said, the budget recycled old promises without offering clear implementation plans.
“There was absolutely nothing new—nothing to energise the economy or give hope to the ordinary Ghanaian,” he remarked.
According to the Gushegu MP, the budget lacked policy direction and strategic focus, especially at a time when the economy requires decisive and innovative measures.
He argued that the allocations and proposals presented by the government did not reflect the seriousness of the challenges confronting households and businesses. “You cannot call this a recovery budget,” he added.
Mr Tampuli further observed that major sectors such as transport, agriculture, and small business development received vague mentions without the financial backing required to drive growth.
He said the absence of targeted interventions demonstrates that the government has “run out of fresh ideas” to reposition the economy.
He concluded by urging the government to consider revising the budget to include more concrete strategies and actionable policies.
According to him, the country needs a budget that responds directly to the realities on the ground as public confidence remains low heading into the next phase of national economic planning.
