The government has stated its dedication to aiding the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage in rebuilding their lives and returning to their normal routines.

There has been an increasing call for the government to temporarily relocate the affected individuals to the Saglemi Housing project.

Addressing these requests during a press conference, Information Minister Kojo Oppong highlighted that the government’s primary focus at the moment is to provide crucial assistance to the victims.

He further explained that the flooding in the Volta Region has led to the creation of twenty dedicated centres to accommodate those affected.

According to him, this approach aims to prevent their situation from getting worse during this challenging period.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also stated that the government plans to help them return to their home communities once the water levels go down. “These are our fellow citizens in different parts of the region, and because of the landscape, we have set up twenty centres to accommodate people from nearby villages affected by the flooding.

The goal is to ensure that the people relocated to these centres receive necessary support such as food, bedding, healthcare, etc., so that their situation doesn’t become even more difficult.

And once the water levels recede, we will assist them in going back to their communities.”
