Garu MP, Dr Thomas Anaba, has appealed to all factions in the long-running Bawku conflict to accept the final ruling of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the traditional mediation process draws to a close on Monday, 1 December 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
Dr Anaba expressed deep concern about the decades of loss and hardship borne by residents of the area, emphasising that the people of Bawku have paid too heavy a price in lives, livelihoods, and opportunities. He maintained that genuine peace is the only viable path forward.
The Asantehene, appointed by government to spearhead efforts towards a lasting settlement, is expected to announce his final decision today—an outcome widely seen as a crucial opportunity to end years of violence and mistrust.
Speaking to Citi FM on Sunday, 30 November 2025, Dr Anaba encouraged all stakeholders to receive the Asantehene’s pronouncement with goodwill and commit themselves fully to restoring calm in the enclave.
He noted that unity and cooperation remain essential for sustainable progress.
“There is nothing more to desire than peace in Bawku. We have spent years and countless resources, lost precious lives, and seen businesses collapse because of this conflict,” he remarked.
“President Nana Akufo-Addo entrusted the matter to the Asantehene, and President John Mahama also maintained confidence in his ability to resolve it. He has handled the process gently and methodically, bringing us to this final stage.”
Dr Anaba added that the ruling should mark a fresh start for Bawku.
“What we hope for is that his decision will usher in peace, the government will adopt his recommendations, and all parties will respect their implementation in full. We are one people, after all. There are no real divisions—only a misunderstanding over ownership that has escalated for far too long.”
He concluded with a call for calm, expressing optimism that the resolution will restore Bawku to its former status as a centre of stability, vibrant trade, and growth.
