England midfielder Jude Bellingham has been fined €30,000 for a crotch-grabbing gesture made after scoring in last Sunday’s win over Slovakia.
UEFA announced on Monday that it was investigating Bellingham for the gesture made following his late equaliser in England’s 2-1 extra-time victory over Slovakia in the Euro 2024 last-16 tie.
The win set up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday.
Responding to the incident on social media, Bellingham explained, “It was an inside-joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”
After the investigation, UEFA fined the Real Madrid star but cleared him to play on Saturday.
Bellingham, 21, has also received a suspended one-match ban on a one-year probation period, meaning he can still feature in the match against Switzerland in Dusseldorf.

UEFA deemed that Bellingham violated “the basic rules of decent conduct,” leading to the €30,000 fine and the suspended ban, which will only be enforced if he re-offends.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is hoping to lead his team to glory in Germany, where he once played regularly with the Black and Yellows.
Despite some challenges, Bellingham has been a standout for the Three Lions, scoring two crucial goals in the competition. He netted the only goal in the opening game against Serbia and was the hero with an injury-time scissor kick that saved England against Slovakia.
