Ghana’s sensational high jumper, Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, has won the country’s first gold medal at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
Yeboah secured her victory with a jump of 1.87m at the Stade de la Reunification, successfully defending the title she won in Mauritius two years ago.
The former University of Cape Coast (UCC) student holds a national record of 1.97m and has already qualified for the Paris Olympic Games. Guinea’s Fatoumatou Balley claimed the silver medal, while Nigeria’s Adenisa Temitope took bronze.
Yeboah’s gold medal follows a disappointing finish for Ghana in the women’s 100m final on Saturday.
However, there is optimism as both relay teams have advanced to the finals, scheduled for Monday, June 24.
