The Ghana Revenue Authority has assured taxpayers and the business community of utmost fairness in its resolve to enhance tax compliance this year. This is part of initiatives by the authority to improve revenue mobilisation to meet the set target for the year.
Acting Commissioner General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, gave the assurance in a speech to launch this year’s tax and good governance month in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region.
“The compliant taxpayer files his or her returns on time, makes payment on the due date, keeps proper records, makes full disclosure of information and complies with all tax laws, among others.
On our part, we have resolved to work with our core values from our hearts and our minds. We pledged to treat all taxpayers with fairness, with integrity and responsiveness to all your needs while serving you with courtesy and cordiality, so together we work as a professional team to build our nation, Ghana,” he said.
The GRA is dedicating this month to Tax & Good Governance, with a special focus on Online Filing of Personal Income Tax Returns and other strategies to ensure improved compliance.
The Commissioner General praised the officials of the Authority for their unflinching support and dedication to their mandate in the last few months, which has resulted in exceeding its target for the first quarter.
He therefore assured the government’s commitment to make the business environment friendlier so they can make more profit and file their taxes.
“Let me also assure you that the government of Ghana, through the GRA, is steadfast in its commitments to ensuring a conducive environment for voluntary tax compliance. We recognise that a modern, efficient and customer-centric tax administration is vital to achieve our goal,” Anthony Sarpong assured.
The Commissioner General also used the occasion to engage some traditional authorities and key business partners and tax customers in the region as part of his familiarisation tour.
