Radio and TV personality Louis Kwame Sakyiamah, known as Lexis Bill, has said that he never initially considered making a living from radio presenting.
In an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes, he mentioned that he did not see it as a career at first but reconsidered his decision when he began reaping financial benefits.
As a student at the time, he fell in love with radio due to its mystery, as his colleagues admired the voice on air without knowing it was him.
“I was sitting amongst them; they were talking about me but didn’t know it was me. At the time, it was a nickname, ‘Lexis,’ and because we were in class, we all used our government names, which is Louis. So, they know me as Louis, and so how do I tell them I’m the Lexis guy who was on the radio? That was the mystery about radio that I enjoyed, and that’s what made me literally enjoy that setup and decide to pay attention to this radio thing that they’re talking about to see whether it’s worth my while.
So, in the beginning, it wasn’t something I took as a career or something that I thought could make me money,” he noted.
But along the way, he started making money from it and received MC opportunities and voice-over gigs. By his third year in university (Level 300), he was employed at one of the well-known radio stations in Kumasi at the time.
This deepened his interest and engagement in the work as his passion gradually developed into a career, balancing school and work simultaneously.
“I started MCing events, and they would pay me; I started doing voiceovers, commercials, and adverts, and they would pay me, and they were good money. That money plus my parents’ stipends was enough for me,” he told Roselyn Felli.
