The host of Newsfile, Sampson Lardy Anyenini, has commended former Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, for his contributions to the authority, describing his work as internationally commendable.
Speaking on his programme, Anyenini expressed the view that Dr Antwi-Boasiako is one of the CEOs from the erstwhile NPP government whose performance merits continuity, despite the change in administration.
“I would have wished that the Cyber Security boss (Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako) also kept his post. He took us from 27% or 32% of international rating to 99% plus and brought us high with Singapore, with the US in cybersecurity, so not everything was bad in the regime,” Sampson said.

The remarks came in the context of a discussion on the recent dispute between the former CEO of Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL), Mr David Asante, and the company’s current management.

GPCL has dismissed Mr Asante’s claims that he alone was responsible for the company’s recent turnaround, emphasising that ongoing modernisation and financial improvements are the result of efforts by the current management.
The comments highlight the importance of recognising institutional achievements and leadership performance irrespective of political transitions.
About Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako
For over 15 years, Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako has played a leading role in shaping cybersecurity development across Africa, spanning both the private and public sectors. In 2011, he founded the e-Crime Bureau in Ghana, the first dedicated cybersecurity and digital forensics firm in West Africa with a state-of-the-art laboratory, supporting law enforcement in investigating and prosecuting cybercrimes.
His work through the Bureau extended across the continent, including engagements in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, and Ghana, and involved international organisations such as the UNODC, UNCTAD, European Union, Commonwealth Secretariat, GCIG/Chatham House, and GIABA. He also served as an Expert on the Council of Europe’s GLACY+ Project before becoming Ghana’s National Coordinator for the programme.
From July 2017 to September 2021, Dr Antwi-Boasiako served as Ghana’s National Cybersecurity Advisor and head of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), leading the country’s cybersecurity development from 32.6% in 2017 to 99.27% in 2024.
Under his leadership, Ghana was recognised as a tier-1 role model in the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index. In October 2021, he became the first Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), a role he held until March 2025, overseeing the passage of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) and the adoption of the National Cybersecurity Policy & Strategy in 2024.
Dr Antwi-Boasiako led Ghana’s technical efforts for the ratification of the Budapest Convention and the Malabo Convention on Cybersecurity, and directed negotiations for the UN Convention against Cybercrime, adopted in August 2024.
He spearheaded initiatives including Critical Information Infrastructure protection, licensing of cybersecurity providers, and awareness campaigns for children, the public, businesses, and government, establishing Ghana as a regional leader in cybersecurity.
He completed his PhD at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, introducing the Harmonised Model for Digital Evidence Admissibility Assessment (HM-DEAA), a pioneering framework for digital forensics standardisation. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Trento, Italy, and a postgraduate degree from the University of Portsmouth, UK, graduating cum laude and with distinction, respectively.
Dr Antwi-Boasiako has delivered presentations at over 100 international and domestic conferences, workshops, and forums, and conducted training and capacity-building programmes across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Pacific.
He has collaborated with organisations including the World Bank, World Economic Forum, ITU, GFCE, UN, UNICEF, SGI, and the Freedom Online Coalition. He has also served on the Independent Advisory Committee of GIFCT, as a Bureau Member of the Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY) of the Council of Europe, and as a member of the WEF Global Coalition for Digital Safety.
In addition, Dr Antwi-Boasiako represented Ghana on ECOWAS’ Regional Technical Committee on Cybersecurity, chaired the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA), and led Ghana’s Joint Cybersecurity Committee until March 2025.
In June 2021, he was ranked the 20th most influential security executive globally by IFSEC Global. His awards include the Top 20 Tech Leaders 2022 by Ghana IT & Telecom Awards and the Most Outstanding Personality Award from the Internet Society Ghana Chapter. On 1 October 2025, the CSA honoured him with a service award recognising him as the ‘Father of Cybersecurity Development in Ghana’.
A visionary institutional builder, Dr Antwi-Boasiako, founded both the private e-Crime Bureau and the public Cyber Security Authority. He is the Founder & Executive Chairman of the e-Crime Bureau, lectures at institutions including KAIPTC, Accra Metropolitan University, KNUST, and UNICRI, and has published widely on IT, cybersecurity, cybercrime, data protection, and digital forensics.
Beyond cybersecurity, he established the Education for Development (E4D) Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting education for underprivileged children in Ghana. Inspired by Plato’s philosophy that “the direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life,” the Foundation seeks to empower disadvantaged youth to transform their life trajectories through education.
