The Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, Frank Afrikyie has promised to leverage tourism and agriculture to enhance the livelihoods of his constituents.
He underscored that the constituency has potential in these two sectors, and if harnessed well, would enhance socio-economic growth, with residents reaping the benefits.
He said this in an interview with Myjoyonline.com.
Tourism
Mr Afriyie disclosed a plan aimed at revamping the sector to offer the unique Afro experience to revelers from across the world.
He listed putting access roads in the enclave in good shape to ensure easy access to the various sites, providing a facelift to the sites, and enhancing mobile network connectivity in the enclave.
This he said was to enable tourists to maintain contact with their loved ones and share their experiences, while exploiting the sites.
He extended an invitation to tourists to come and have a feel of the numerous tourist sites in an eco-friendly environment.
“We have Mountain Afadza, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, we have a lot of falls, and a snake village also in Liati. Indeed, we offer a lot, so within the Ghana month, we are throwing an invitation to investors, to tourists, to come to Afadzato South”, he said
He was optimistic that Ghana’s revenue from tourism would skyrocket if all these measures are put in place, accompanied by the necessary investments and publicity.
Agriculture
Mr Afriyie noted that an aggressive agenda would be implemented to make the constituency a hub for producing cash crops and refined herbs for pharmaceutical purposes.
He also explained that the agenda includes adding value to the crops, to meet international standards, making them fit for export.
This he said would be achieved by supporting incentives and capacity-building programmes to enable them produce quality crops for the country’s food basket and beyond.
“The best avocados that you have on the shelves, are from Afadzato. The best bananas that you have in the country, are from Afadzato. We are going to strategise so well that we can process a lot and send it to other countries”, he said.
He assured of the completion of the eastern corridor road, which is a priority project of the NDC government, to help in the carting of produce to the market centres.
“When you open up this corridor, it boosts tourism, business, and everything”, he stressed.
