Gomdah and Associates, legal representatives of Dr. Williams Sarpong Anarfi, Chief Executive Officer of Accra-based Spintex Medical Center, have threatened to file a lawsuit against US-based Ghanaian freelance journalist Kevin Taylor for allegedly defaming their client and putting his family at risk.
In a press statement issued on Monday, 3 March, the lawyers stated that Kevin Taylor, during his regular shows on 26, 27, and 28 February, made false claims about Dr Sarpong Anarfi during a Facebook Live broadcast.
The lawyers explained that, in the show, Mr. Taylor called on the Presidency and President John Mahama to “dissociate” Dr Sarpong Anarfi from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing him of attempting to “defraud” the Presidency.

“We also wish to clarify that our client is not fraudulent and has never been involved in any fraudulent dealings with the Presidency,” the statement read.
Additionally, the lawyers expressed concern over Mr. Taylor’s actions during the show, where he allegedly displayed photographs of the medical practitioner and mentioned the names of his parents and siblings, thereby exposing them to potential “threats and hate”.
“We wish to state that we have our client’s express instructions to institute legal proceedings against Kevin Taylor” the lawyers noted.
This is not the first instance of Kevin Taylor facing defamation allegations while operating from the United States.
Over the weekend, a private legal practitioner and host of JoyNews Newsfile, Samson Lardy, called on the government to ensure that Mr.Taylor is arrested when he visits the country, citing the numerous defamatory actions carried out on his television programmes.
In 2020, Gabby Otchere-Darko, Senior Partner of Accra-based corporate law firm Africa Legal Associates (ALA), won a defamation lawsuit against Kevin Taylor.
The freelance journalist was to pay ¢1 million for damages caused by his defamatory comments about the terminated Power Distribution Service (PDS) deal.
