Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation, Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah has denied the sale of the Parks and Gardens lands to a private developer.

The Member of Parliament of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had revealed in recent time of the sale of the premises of the Parks and Gardens to a private developer.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, Ghana’s “green belt which has been preserved since the colonial era, which the colonial masters demarcated to give us a green buffer, to have an ecosystem which is environmentally friendly” is being sold to a private developer.

But answering an urgent question filed by the North Tongu MP in parliament, minister of local government and rural development Martin Adjei -Mensah Korsah said he was pursuing the the matter and engaging all stakeholders to protect the and secure tittles of those that do not have or cannot be traced at lands commission .
He stressed that “on the on the particular case of the Department of Parks and Garden’s lands in Cantonments, the recent claimant to the portion of the land indicated that he acquired title to the land in contention but could not produce any documentation after taking the matter to court.”.

The court he said subsequently dismissed the case and requested the Plaintiff to re-enter the case with proper documentation.
“Our checks however revealed that the claimant did not have any valid documentation to the land. I wish to state that the land in question has a valid Certificate of Allocation dated 2nd October, 1952 to the Department of Parks and Gardens”

Mr. Speaker, I wish to assure you that the Ministry would vigorously pursue the protection of all lands belonging to the Department and ensure that no developer or individual encroaches on the said lands, except for purposes for which they were acquired by Government of Ghana.
