The Minority caucus in Parliament is demanding tough actions from President John Mahama against the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi.
The (GoldBod) CEO was caught on camera doling out several notes of dollars to self-styled evangelist Patricia Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The incident has received widespread condemnation, with Smamy Gyamfi apologising for his action.
Addressing journalists in Parliament, member of the Finance Committee Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama described Sammy Gyamfi’s conduct as financial recklessness and shameful arrogance.
“Suddenly encapsulates the arrogance, hypocrisy, and gross insensitivity that have come to define the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama,” he said.
Dr. Mahama expressed outrage over the government’s handling of financial matters, labelling it a direct affront to citizens who are already facing the crippling effects of inflation and an ever-increasing cost of living.
“This display of financial recklessness is not only a betrayal of public trust but also a slap in the face of the millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of cedi inflation and the unbearable cost of living,” Dr Mahama said.
He added that the matter was made worse by the involvement of individuals who had previously positioned themselves as champions of economic prudence and anti-corruption.
“It is even more shameful that this act was committed by someone who has, in the past, championed populist rhetoric about economic discipline, cedi loyalty, and anti-corruption,” he noted.
