The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame on Saturday, June 22, launched his campaign for another term.
Paul Kagame has already served two 7-year terms and stands as one of the longest-serving presidents in Africa, having served as leader of the country in the last 30 years.
At the launch of his campaign, President Kagame said Rwanda is aware of its history and owns its development, hence will define democracy on its terms.
Nine million Rwandans are registered to vote in the poll to be held concurrently with legislative elections — a first in the country.
Kagame has been Rwanda’s de facto ruler since the end of the 1994 genocide which claimed some 800,000 lives, mostly Tutsis but also moderate Hutus.
