Plan International Ghana has launched a new initiative dubbed Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Ghana (RWVLG) to empower women.
The project is being rolled out in collaboration with Plan International Canada and in collaboration with the Network for Women’s Rights in Ghana (NETRIGHT) and the African Youth and Adolescent Network–Ghana (AfriYAN-Ghana).
Speaking at the launch on 25th November at Tang Hotel, the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Constant Tchona, said the initiative is designed to nurture and empower young feminists who are already contributing significantly to the gender equality landscape in Ghana.
He noted that these young leaders are playing a critical role in shaping national conversations on equality, and the project seeks to further strengthen their voices, expand their reach, and equip them with the skills required to drive meaningful social change across the country.
“We aim to nurture the next generation of feminist leaders who are already redefining the future of gender equality in Ghana,” he said.
The Deputy Director and Head of Cooperation, Global Affairs Canada, Francoise Nduwimana, commended grassroots women’s rights organisations, Plan International Ghana, and all partner institutions for their sustained commitment to advancing gender equality.
She highlighted their notable achievements, including contributions to the passage of 26 laws that have positively impacted the lives of women in Ghana.
Francoise encouraged the organisations to maintain their advocacy and continue pushing for meaningful policy reforms.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo, noted that the RWVLG project serves as an important mechanism for increasing public awareness, strengthening institutional capacity, and enhancing accountability systems necessary for the effective implementation of existing legislation.
She affirmed that these efforts are crucial to advancing Ghana’s broader goals in gender equality and social protection.
Project Manager Theodora Asare outlined the project’s core objectives, implementing partners, funding arrangements, and timeline.
She emphasised that the initiative prioritises capacity building, flexible financing, and the promotion of gender-transformative change across Ghana.
The project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, is being implemented under the theme “Renewed Voices, Stronger Movements: Powering Ghana’s Gender Equality.”
