A police escort vehicle was involved in a near-fatal accident on Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2025, near the police barrier in Binduri while accompanying a convoy of nursing students.
The incident, which occurred around 4:00 PM, saw the backup security vehicle somersault multiple times, resulting in significant damage but, fortunately, no fatalities.
The police escort was providing security for students from the Presbyterian Nurses and Midwifery Training College, who were being transported from Bolgatanga to Bawku.
According to reports, the accident involved one of the security detail’s backup vehicles, which reportedly lost control during the escort mission.
Confirming the incident, Upper East Regional Police Commander DCOP Raymond Wejong Adofiem stated, “The vehicle somersaulted several times and was extensively damaged. But we did not record any casualties.”
While the driver sustained injuries, the prompt response from local residents was crucial in managing the immediate aftermath and providing assistance.
Despite the severity of the crash, authorities confirmed that the primary escort mission continued uninterrupted.
All nursing students were safely transported to their destination in Bawku without any delays or disruptions to their journey.
The damaged vehicle has since been recovered for investigation into the precise cause of the accident.
