The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections largely to the rising cost of living and poor governance in certain areas.
Speaking on Sunday, 27 April, during the party’s Thank You Tour, Mr Kodua emphasised the need for the NPP to confront these challenges honestly if it hopes to rebuild and regain public trust.
“We lost the 2024 elections because of cost of living issues and poor governance in certain areas,” Mr Kodua stated.
He explained that the hardships faced by ordinary Ghanaians, particularly in relation to prices of basic goods and services, significantly eroded the party’s support base.
According to him, while the NPP achieved several successes, its failure to address critical bread-and-butter issues made it difficult to secure re-election.
Mr Kodua further highlighted that governance lapses in some sectors created widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate.
“Some areas of governance did not meet the expectations of our people, and unfortunately, we paid the price at the polls,” he noted.
He added that the party must listen more closely to the concerns of Ghanaians and ensure that their needs are prioritised in future.
The General Secretary urged party members to rally together and work towards implementing the recommendations of the recently completed internal review processes.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the NPP, stating, “We must learn from our mistakes, correct them, and move forward with unity and purpose.”
