The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a significant quantity of ammunition during a routine operation at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier on the Accra-Benin Highway.
The incident, according to the police, occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 18, 2025.
A statement signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Volta Regional Police Public Affairs Unit noted that officers on duty conducted a routine search on a Hyundai bus with registration number GR 8246-Q, which was travelling from Accra towards Benin.

“A routine search conducted in the vehicle uncovered 60 cartons of AAA cartridges (15000 pieces of AAA) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (18000 pieces of BB) loaded in sacks and concealed under some luggage,” portions of the release stated.
It added, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Abasou Fousseni, 45, and his co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, 38, were both arrested for interrogation. However, they denied any knowledge of the illicit cargo. Further police investigation revealed that the co-driver was responsible for loading the ammunition into the vehicle.

To minimise disruption to passengers, police allowed the vehicle to proceed after ensuring alternative transport arrangements were made, while the co-driver remained in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned before the court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to fighting transnational crime to ensure peace in the sub-region.
