The Global Governing Council of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network has inaugurated a new Executive body for the Network’s Liberia Chapter, with renowned mental health awareness advocate, Ms. Amooney BS Gborkorquellie, as President.
With her on the Executive team are Tammy Love Kwia, a financial and procurement expert as National Vice President; Jestina Kieh, a dedicated public health professional as National Secretary, also doubling as Treasurer; and Elizabeth MK Nyandibo, a Management Information Systems (MIS) expert and football administrator as Media Liaison Officer.
Their appointments, renewable upon the successful completion of a tenure, are for a period of two years each.
Founder and Executive Chairperson of the YAWC Network, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, in a letter on behalf of the Global Governing Council, commended the newly appointed Executives and charged them to lead the Chapter to greater glories.
Roles and Responsibilities
As National President for the YAWC Network Liberia Chapter, Ms. Gborkorquellie is expected to lead the organization at the national level and serve as the organization’s main representative in the country.
Her key responsibilities among other things, will be to lead delegates to the Annual Convocation of the Young African Women Congress; act as chairperson at all meetings of the Executive Committee and at all other meetings of the Chapter; steer the affairs of the Network with supervision from the Global Secretariat while serving as the link between the Global Secretariat and Chapter members.
As National Vice President, Ms. Tammy Love Kwia will assist the President in the day to day running of the Chapter; ensure adequate logistical arrangement for programmes and activities of the Chapter; assume the duties of the President in her absence; and perform other duties as may be assigned her from time to time by the President.
The National Secretary, Jestina Kieh, will act as the custodian of all files, legal books and documents of the Chapter; record and keep minutes of all meetings; write and dispatch circulars, letters and other correspondences of the Chapter in countersign with the Chapter President.
Doubling as the Treasurer, she will receive and disburse all funds of the Chapter under the discretion of the National Chapter Executive Committee (NCEC) and keep regular accounts and books of the Chapter.
The National Media Liaison Officer, Elizabeth MK Nyandibo, will also on her part, oversee and report to the Chapter President for the execution of policies related to publicity matters; liaise between the mass media and the Chapter for the publicity of the Network’s activities and issue press releases and other information on behalf of the Chapter, among others.
The YAWC Network is a confederation of young women of African descent in Africa and in the diaspora who seek to be empowered and be themselves, change-makers for leadership and development on the continent.
At the heart of its mandate, the Network indulges itself in the mobilisation of women from the grassroots level for leadership and development through advocacy, training and projects.
Profile of President
Ms. Amooney BS Gborkorquellie is an Administrative Assistant at Universal Custom Ambassador Inc., where she serves as a Duty-Free Agent. With strong organizational and communication skills, she is passionate about helping young women shape up into more effective leaders and advocates across Africa and beyond.
A graduate of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities from the University of Liberia, she holds an enviable number of certificates from reputable agencies and organizations across the globe including certifications from Tussu Global, the Yali Regional Leadership Center in Accra, Ghana and the Lions Club International, for her painstaking efforts in women empowerment and advocacy over the years.
She is currently working on leveraging digital platforms to amplify youth voices in Liberia and across Africa with her main focus being mental health awareness and entrepreneurship, using the connections and inspiration gained over the years with an aim of turning what she has learnt over the years into practical, localized impact that continues to grow beyond her participation.

Tammy Love Kwia is an energetic, confident, self-motivated individual with over six years’ experience in managerial disciplines including administrative, financial and procurement.
An excellent communicator at all levels and a highly analytical and results-oriented procurement professional, Ms. Kwia holds a Master’s Degree in Procurement, possessing extensive experience in the area with proven leadership skills.

Jestina Kieh is a dedicated public health professional with a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH), specializing in Epidemiology from Cuttington University School of Graduate and Professional Studies.
She also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biology from the Adventist University of West Africa; a couple of certificates from the Word of Faith Bible Institute and the Jonah Togbah School of Leadership respectively, and several other certificates from the United Nations, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
As an active member of the Liberia Public Health Association, the Biology Student Association, and Growing Seed, a Christian support service, Jestina continues to contribute to the public health community and uphold her dedication to service.
